Sheer fabrics are woven or knitted from fine yarns at an open density, so light passes through them. Voiles and other light curtain fabrics are typical sheers.
A sheer softens daylight and keeps a room bright while veiling the view from outside. It is light, falls in fine folds and moves easily, and it is often hung together with heavier curtains.
